Short video, primarily for my own information, but I thought it might be helpful for others to see as well. I wanted to find out what the amp draw of my motor/prop combination is so that I can make sure that my connectors and equipment can handle the load.
It’s easy to over-engineer based on these tests, but if you do, it doesn’t hurt. It can be bad to under-engineer, however, if you don’t take these things into consideration.
While my results leave me with a 17A constant at full throttle and a 20A burst, the reality is that my actual flight levels will be much lower. In fact, at half throttle, I was only pulling around 5A — that’s a 30A total draw at half throttle!.
Since I am at a point to decide what connectors to use (and what batteries to get) I will just make sure that they can handle the worst. No reason not to over-engineer it at this point in the build.
