CPO 135 Tricopter : The G10 Shorty!

This is the “G10 Shorty”. I cut 150mm off each boom, removed the camera/battery tray, and made this a bit of a race car version of the larger FPV/AV original. I realize some of you aren’t looking for a video platform. This should show you that the CPO 135 Tricopter is a capable acrobat as well. (Just don’t rely on my skills to prove it! LOL!)

One of the great guys that’s been active on my thread on RC Groups (CPO’s Officially Unofficial Tricopter Build :: Step by Step Scratch Build How-To) has gone and laser-cut some G-10 body panels using my tricopter design. Jack (or jackerbes on the forum) and his son have been playing with the laser cutter…and I think they have just about got things worked out.

In this video, I go over the basics of setting up analog voltage telemetry on the Taranis using OpenTX. I am using a FrSky D8R-II Plus receiver and a FrSky FBVS-01 voltage sensor. I go through the basic setup to use the A1 port for reading internal receiver voltage and using the A2 port for reading my flight battery voltage.

This was a fun little FPV run just to really start getting my tricopter going. It was my first FPV flight, which was half line-of-sight- and half fpv. FPV video was mostly used to see where the camera on the tricopter was pointing, and to get back home when it got so far out I couldn’t see it anymore.

I did some stabilization in Final Cut Pro X, but I’m not overly impressed with the output….

Took the tricopter out for a quick recorded flight. All settings are still stock. No tuning. I am very pleased with how easy this thing flies right from the get go. I am sure will a little tuning, it will be even better! I did have one anomaly…and I am not sure exactly what happened. It’s about 2 minutes into the video. The right arm sorta dropped out, but afterwards it flew like it never…

In this video, I go over the basic transmitter and KK2.1 programming and calibration. These are the fundamental settings that are needed to get the tricopter ready for maiden. I had a question about how I have my UBEC wired up on my tricopter to supply power to my tail servo. It’s a totally legit newbie question, and I am not sure it’s real clear from my videos. I figure if one person has the question, probably someone else does as well, so sharing the answer.
